Sodium silicate, also known as water glass, is available in granule or white, sand-like powder form. It readily dissolves in water to produce a hazy, colorless colloidal solution with high alkalinity. Due to its sensitivity to moisture in the air, it should be stored in tightly sealed containers.

This compound is commonly used in specialized refractory applications and acid-resistant cements. It also serves as an effective binder for powdered materials intended for use in high-temperature or acid-resistant cement formulations, as well as various other industrial applications.
