MCI/MI preservative helps protect water-based formulations from bacteria, yeast, & mould (fungi) during storage. Used in suitable rinse-off cosmetics, craft liquids, & household products, it helps reduce microbial spoilage that can cause unpleasant smells or changes in the product.
MCI/MI is a blend of Methylchloroisothiazolinone and Methylisothiazolinone, also called CMIT/MIT. It is a formulation ingredient that must be accurately measured and mixed into a compatible product.
Common Uses:
- Cosmetics: Suitable shampoo, liquid hand wash, shower gel, and other rinse-off formulations, subject to applicable cosmetic limits.
- Art and craft: Compatible water-based acrylic paints, PVA glues, craft adhesives, acrylic sealers, and varnishes.
- Craft additives: Water-based pigment dispersions and liquid additives for gypsum or casting formulations, where compatibility is confirmed.
- Other applications: Suitable detergents, household cleaners, polymer emulsions, and industrial water-based coatings.
Its main role is to protect the liquid product inside its container. It does not automatically make a finished craft item mould-resistant or turn a cleaner into a disinfectant.
Use and Compatibility: Follow the supplier’s technical data sheet for dosage, pH range, & mixing conditions. The correct amount depends on the supplied active concentration and the finished formulation. Test compatibility and preservative performance before selling a finished product.
Safety Warnings:
- May cause an allergic skin reaction. Cosmetic grade does not mean safe for direct skin application.
- Avoid skin and eye contact. Concentrated solutions can cause serious injury; follow the product’s Safety Data Sheet.
- Wear suitable chemical-resistant gloves and eye protection. Avoid breathing mist.
- Do not use in leave-on creams, lotions, serums, or wet wipes.
- Not for food, drinking water, or direct use on the body.
- Keep away from children. Prevent release into drains and waterways.
