EDTA is a white odourless, colourless crystalline powder, with a melting point of 240C at which it decomposes. It is insoluble in cold water, alcohol and general organic solvents, soluble in sodium hydroxide, boiling water, sodium carbonate and ammonia solution. It is an important complexing agent. EDTA can be used for processing colour photographic materials bleach fixing bath washing, dyeing auxiliaries, textile processing auxiliaries, detergent, stabiliser, synthetic rubber and polymerization initiator.
